5 Fantastic Craft Breweries in St. Louis!

I love craft beer. And I love St. Louis. And lucky me…St. Louis has a long history of brewing and a diverse range of craft breweries and brew pubs. Check out some of my favorites…

Dogtown’s Heavy Riff | 6413 Clayton Road

Heavy Riff Brewing Company in the heart of Dogtown uses traditional brewing methods to craft a wide range of classic and experimental beer styles, featuring inspiration from a range of musical influences. Heavy Riff was founded in 2013 by owner and brewmaster, Jerid Saffell along with Rick Hagen and Greg Meyer. The brewpub offers 25 taps, house-smoked BBQ, and a playlist that spans the greatest rock music from the past several decades to timeless classics.

Lafayette Square’s Square One Brewery | 1727 Park Avenue

Square One Brewery housed in an old Lafayette Square tavern that was home to an Anheuser-Busch tavern a century ago, serves up dozens of different varieties of house-crafted beer that includes the staples of every microbrewery — a rich stout, a clean-tasting IPA and a tart weizen. The food is casual hearty pub fare that goes well with the full-bodied flavor of a pint: chili, beer-cheese soup, bratwurst, plus beer-battered this, that and the other.

The Grove & Francis Park’s Rockwell Beer Co. | The Grove 1320 S. Vandeventer Avenue | Francis Park 5300 Donovan Avenue

Rockwell Beer Co. has been in the industry since 2018 and has two active locations, its tasting room in The Grove and its outdoor beer garden in Francis Park. Its brand is widely known in St. Louis, and it is now among the most visited breweries in the city.

Maplewood’s Side Project | 7458 Manchester Road

If barrel-aged beer is your thing, then you’ll be great friends with Side Project Brewing. This brewery focuses on crafting premium barrel-aged ales, Saisons, and wild ales. You can visit the taproom to drink a few of its brews on tap or get a bottle of quality ales you want to take with you.

The Grove & Midtown’s Urban Chestnut | The Grove – 4465 Manchester Avenue | Midtown – 3229 Washington Avenue

Traditional brewing meets innovative minds in this St. Louis original brewery, Urban Chestnut Brewing. This brewery has a rich history with its significant contribution to paving the way for the craft beer movement in St. Louis. Moreover, its European lagers and ales are among the beers that made way for modern brewing to be significant and widely used in the city.

Today, Urban Chestnut is among the favorites of residents and tourists, with three active locations across the city. Its Grove Bierhal boasts a spacious outdoor area with long communal tables and chairs. This location also features a variety of German brews and offers delicious pizza made in-house.

Cheers!
