Determine Your Curl Style
Knowing your curl type can help you identify the best hair care products for your hair type as well as the best way to style your hair. Your curly hair type is determined by the shape of the hair follicle. The main categories include:

Type 1: Naturally straight

Type 2: Loose waves

Type 3: Soft curls and loose coils

Type 4: Tight curls and coils

These categories can be further divided up into subcategories…more to come in future blogs on that.

It’s All About the Product
Finding the right product is the key to frizz-free, beautiful curls. DevaCurl is one popular product that is worth a try. And they offer The Essential Starter Kit. Google other products and experiment with what works best for your hair!

Product & Soaking Wet Hair
You will find that curly girls have different techniques for applying products to curly hair. One technique that works well is to apply your product to soaking wet hair. This tends to lend to less frizz and better definition for your curls.

Use a Denman Brush
The Denman Brush was created by John Denman Dean in the 1930s. It is designed specifically for styling naturally curly hair. It does such a great job at creating ringlets and works well on wavy hair, too. The brush helps amplify curls and spirals and increases definition.

Don’t Touch!
An important curly hair styling rule is once you wash, apply product, style and defuse your curly hair…DO NOT TOUCH! The less you mess with your curly hair style you will see less frizz and more coily definition.

If you’ve got curls, caring for them can take some trial and error. But master the right combo of products and styling and you’ll be showing off those amazing curls in no time!

From time-to-time I will recommend products that I use and love. If you purchase something after clicking on these links, I’ll probably earn a few bucks through affiliate programs.
