Do These 3 Things and Make 2024 Count

Hey everyone! As we dive into 2024, I’ve been soaking up some wisdom from Jesse Itzler. He’s all about making the most of the second half of life, tackling challenges head-on, and just living it up. No frills, just good, straightforward advice.

Jesse’s done some cool stuff, like going through a month of intense fitness training with Navy SEALs. Yeah, the Toughest Man on the Planet! It’s pretty wild, but it got me thinking about how we can all add a bit more zest to our lives.

Now, I’m not saying we all need to join the Navy SEALs, but Jesse’s onto something. There’s a playbook for a fulfilling life, and it doesn’t have to be all extreme. Let’s keep it real and find our own extraordinary moments this year.

1. Misogi: Define Your Year with Impact

The concept of Misogi, a Japanese term for a transformative, year-defining event, resonates deeply. Reflecting on my own journey, these impactful moments include launching a podcast and blog, moving from suburbs to city life, conquering a full marathon, and embarking on the epic adventure with my kids of hiking the Grand Canyon from rim-to-rim! This year, my Misogi is a European escapade with my daughter and her boyfriend, topped with a Taylor Swift concert in Paris! Because why not infuse a bit of magic into the mix?

2. Mini Adventures: Making Every Month Count

Jesse advocates for mini adventures every other month—a deliberate effort to infuse the mundane with excitement. As I plan out these escapades for the year, I’m reminded that life is all about meaningful connections and experiences. It’s not just about existing but actively participating in the joy of living. One adventure that is planned, thanks to one of my great neighbors, is a pie party in February! I mean, PIE! Bring it on!!

3. Quarterly Habits: Small Changes, Big Impact

Jesse’s strategy of identifying four new habits each quarter aligns with the philosophy that small, consistent changes lead to profound transformations. For the first quarter of 2024, my focus is on conquering a personal finance fear—budgeting and saving money. It’s about cultivating an abundance mindset and rewriting the narrative around finances. Another habit I’m going to re-incorporate into my life is JUICING. I have a juicer and I love it, but I haven’t been using it; check out my Ginger Shot blog post and juice with me!

In a world where the routine can easily devour our time—between work, responsibilities, and the siren call of our screens—Jesse’s roadmap serves as a guiding light. It’s a reminder to intentionally carve out moments that create meaning, purpose, and joy.

So, here’s to embracing the midlife adventure with open arms, stepping into the unknown, and creating a symphony of memories that resonate for years to come. Let’s make 2024 a chapter filled with Misogi moments, mini adventures, and transformative habits. Here’s to living our best midlife years—full of purpose, passion, and limitless possibilities!
